DogLogic is pleased to offer a Control Unleashed session before the end of the year.
Control Unleashed is a class based on the book of the same name, by Leslie McDevitt. It is NOT a class that expects you to have off leash control of your dog, nor is it a class that guarantees to give you that off-leash control.
This class concentrates on techniques to enhance focus, relaxation and coping skills in all dog/handler teams. It is particularly beneficial for those dogs whom some might label ‘reactive’. ‘Reactive’ in this context refers to a dog that displays signs of anxiety through over-arousal and hyper-vigilance and/or, a dog that exhibits his anxiety by ‘shutting down’; maybe hides behind things or refuses to move from a certain spot, who, when faced with things he is uncertain about is inclined to go sniffing instead of responding to known cues.
If any of these behaviors sound familiar, Control Unleashed may be the class for you.
This class session will run for seven weeks.
Wednesday, Oct. 31st at 5:00 pm (This class is for Handler[s] only, without dog)
Wk. 2 through Wk. 7:
Wednesdays Nov. 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th and Dec. 5th, 12th at 5:30 pm
The first class, Week 1, covers a lot of essential information and typically lasts between one and one and a half hours. This class is for HANDLERS ONLY and is a mandatory part of the course. It addresses concerns about the class environment and gives the class participants a chance to meet and share a little about their dogs to ensure that everyone, both dogs and humans, is set up for success in week two.
Class members will also practice a few mechanical skills and learn a little about the basic concepts of both classical and operant conditioning as they apply to positive reinforcementbased training.
Homework will be given on a weekly basis and individual progress will depend on each training team’s ability to follow through with homework assignments.
The cost for this class is $250 and includes;
* Seven group class, hour-long sessions.
(You are advised to come a little early to set up. This will be explained during your first class, without dog).
* One half-hour private lesson to be scheduled to suit our mutual calendars, Mondays through Thursdays. This private lesson is to be taken no later than the last week of the class session. (If it is not taken within this time frame, it will be forfeited without refund).
