My aim in this course is to give you a toolkit of straightforward behaviors and strategies that will give you immediate help in managing your dog or puppy in the real world.
Our marker based, positive reinforcement training methodology is explained in more depth in our online course, “Clicker Training made Easy.“
We recommend that, following this practical introduction, you consider taking “Clicker Training made Easy” to help you to fully understand our training philosophy. “Clicker Training made Easy” will teach you concepts and give you plenty of opportunity to practice the skills needed to set you up for a lifetime of fun with your well mannered pet.
And of course, we’d love to see you in person at DogLogic for private lessons or in our Basic Manners class. In this class you will be able to put your newly acquired skills into practice as you teach a number of other important foundation behaviors to your dogs in a more stimulating environment.
We have found that if you and your dog have begun to understand each other better through our online classes in the quiet and comfort of your own home, you will manage the transition to a more distracting class environment and real life situations much more easily.
IN THE MEANTIME, HOWEVER, WE KNOW THAT YOU NEED SOME SIMPLE AND IMMEDIATE STRATEGIES TO USE AS YOU FACE THE CHALLENGES OF REAL LIFE ON A DAILY BASIS.
SO LET’S GET STARTED.
FIRST THINGS FIRST – BUILDING A GREAT RELATIONSHIP!
It may sound obvious, but it is still worth stating that, having a great relationship with our dog is something that we all wish for. Otherwise, why would we bring him into our home as our companion?
Take a look at the following list of additional reasons that establishing that great relationship should be your most important, number one priority.
If your relationship is good and strong, your puppy will want to work and play with you.
- He will want to come when called.
- He will want to walk where you walk.
- He will want to earn your approval.
The wise owner will invest in this relationship in all areas of life. It will be more valuable to you both in the long run than any “formal” training. From the moment you pick him up, your pup must trust you in all sorts of strange situations (vet, groomer, hotel, training school, maybe even a sport venue for some of you in the future.)
It is a good relationship that will help you to bring up a happy, confident pup with whom you can enjoy life and accomplish your goals.
HOW DO WE ESTABLISH THAT RELATIONSHIP?
Think of building a healthy relationship as building a healthy bank account.
- Every positive interaction you have with your dog will add to your relationship bank account
- Every negative one will take out of it.
- When real life happens, a strong relationship bank account will withstand the occasional withdrawal.
Through the following games and exercises we will help you to begin to establish that great relationship and build your healthy bank account.
