“I volunteer for a local German Shepherd rescue group and was contacted by one of our local shelters on Valentine’s Day of this year to come and assess a 4-5 month old female GSD pup that had been surrendered to them. The shelter told me in advance that she was sweet but a ‘warning barker’. When I met her, she had already started warming up to the staff and I got lots of slurpy, puppy kisses. I took her home that very day.
It wasn’t until I took her to my vet’s a couple of days later for her spay that I really saw that warning, fearful barking behavior manifest in the waiting room. This seemed to intensify over the next couple of weeks as we took her around to the hardware store and PetsMart for socialization outings. I knew trainer help was in order before our girl, now named Stella, escalated any further.
I had worked with Karen at DogLogic several years ago with a fearful, anxious shepherd and I knew that I wanted to use those positive training techniques again with Stella With Karen’s help, I am learning techniques to use with Stella to counteract her reactiveness as she learns about the big wide world. We want her to know that all is well and she will always be safe with me. I’m appreciative of everything that Karen has taught us and we will continue on our journey with her and DogLogic as Stella grows and gains confidence. Stella is learning lots of new things and so am I.”
