This month’s featured Training Team is Jenny Majors and her band of Border Collies. Jenny joined us a while ago with Kenzy – at first in our Basic Manners and then in a Foundation Agility class.
After a short break, she is back in full force with her wonderful family!
Thank you, Jenny, Dash, Jinx, Kelby, Tara, Kamdyn and Kenzi for being our June Training team of the month!
“First, let me say thank you to Lynne and Karen for allowing my “pack” to be spotlighted in this newsletter. As a professional in the horse industry, training horses, instructing riders, competing, and hosting competitions, I get plenty of time around animals. Horses and dogs just sort of go together, and I have had dogs in my entire life. I’ve had mostly Border Collies, but with a few other breeds and mixed breeds as well. My family got a Border Collie when I was very young, (I was 2 yrs old according to my mom) and my love for them is woven into my soul after growing up with that amazing dog! (Her name was Lassie, chosen by the kids, yes I am THAT old)
I currently am loved by a pack of six Border Collies, plus we have my daughter’s Border/Lab/Catahoula/Chow mix rescue. Three of them are currently in classes with DogLogic, one has been a past student, and I am trying to figure out how to get the other two into programs as well. I had to take a little break from Dog Logic due to some heart issues, but am so happy to be part of the family again!
“Kenzi,” a 4 yr old black/white female, is enrolled in Treibball, and has done some foundation Agility as well. She has her first title in Treibball and we are looking forward to earning more titles and ribbons and moving up the levels! She was the first dog I enrolled in classes with both Karen and Lynne several years ago.
“Kamdyn,” a 9 month old chocolate/white female, is in Rally/CGC/TDI class, and doing great. We hope to try our hand one day at some Rally events, and are thinking about testing for the CGC and TDI certificates. Her littermate, “Tara,” also choc/white will hopefully begin class soon.
“Kelby” is Kenzi’s son, a lilac/white 9 month old male. He is in Basic Manners class with my daughter as handler, and is showing a huge interest in Treibball during our training sessions at home, to follow in his mom’s footsteps. Hopefully he can graduate into a Treibball class!
“Dash” is my 3 yr old blk/wh male, who had done Basic class in the past, and has filled in Rally class recently when Kamdyn was in heat. He was very excited to be back at DogLogic, and convinced me he needs to find a class of his own again!
Last but not least is “Hi Jinx,” a 1 yr old shaded sable male who kind of came to us unexpectedly. He has struggled a bit to “fit in” but is doing better and is super smart (aren’t they all?) and surely needs to find a job too.
It is a second full time job with so many wonderful dogs to play and work with, but can’t imagine being without them! The good news is that I know I can rely on Lynne and Karen to inspire us to learn and explore each of their talents, all while just having fun and developing into companions that are easy and enjoyable to be around. With every class we attend, there is always at least one “golden nugget of new knowledge” to take with us, and often there is so much more….a “breakthrough” in a skill we had been struggling with, a fun new learning game, or just an even closer bond between handler and dog than we had just before walking through that door into class! When Kenzi and I started our DogLogic journey, I had never used a clicker or shaped a behavior. With the expert guidance and patience from these two amazing instructors, I have completely changed how I train, and WOW, the results are incomparable!
Thank you, ladies, for always giving us everything you have, and by going above and beyond to help with those special needs and individual problem solving that comes with every team.”
